25+ years of French Celebration
La La La moved to our new home in Fairfield in 2025, continuing our connection with the Darebin community. We are united by a shared love of the French-speaking world, founded in 1998 by French-born Catrine Berlatier to share the songs of her homeland with her new community in Australia, the choir has grown from a small group of friends into a thriving musical ensemble. We are a dynamic choir community of more than 45 singers, who's ages range from 25 to 85+.
Professionally directed by Paola Bastreri-Grey, we perform both a cappella and accompanied repertoire from Francophone cultures including Corsica, Basque and Latin chambre songs. We recently recorded a live album showcasing our sound, which is now available to stream online or purchase.
Repertoire
Our repertoire comes from all corners of the French speaking world, from circa 14th century to the present day. This allows us a tremendous range of different styles, from 20th century jazz to renaissance courtly love songs, from boozy drinking songs to gorgeous devotional prayers. From Fauré and Gounod, to wild warriors on the rampage, lovelorn youths, or country bumpkins being teased.
