La La La was established in 1998 by Catrine Berlatier, who wanted to share the songs she sang in her native France with friends in her adopted country of Australia. So began the journey, and we are still going strong. All singers are from a range of backgrounds, but share a love of the French world. Professionally directed by Paola Bastreri-Grey, we sing a largely a cappella repertoire. We became incorporated and a registered charity in 2024.
Our repertoire comes from all corners of the French speaking world, and from around the 14th century to the present day. This allows us a tremendous range of different styles, from 20th century jazz to renaissance courtly love songs; from boozy drinking songs to gorgeous devotional prayers. Think Fauré and Gounod, then think wild warriors on the rampage, love-lorn youths, or country bumpkins being satirised.
We rehearse at the St Andrew's Fairfield Uniting Church Hall every Wednesday evening at 7:30PM sharp.
